Ronald Shumake

I, Ronald Shumake, would like to formally announce my candidacy for Smith County Commissioner for District 4 (Rome/Rock City). I was raised in the Elmwood community. I attended Carthage Elementary and graduated from Smith County High. I was president of the FFA chapter my senior year. I farmed with my father a few years then purchased a farm in the Riddleton community, where I lived and farmed for several years. I was elected President of the Smith County Farm Bureau when I was 21 years old and served as director for 15 years. I also served as a director Smith Farmers Coop. I later worked with Coffee County Bank for 18 years.

My daughters graduated from Smith County High and my grandchildren have attended various schools in Smith County. My daughter Sherry’s husband, Robert McClanahan is part-time pastor at Grace Baptist in Riddleton. My daughter Brenda’s husband, Jamey Duke is pastor at The Refuge church in Carthage. My daughter Connie’s husband, Jackie Gentry owns and operates Volunteer Motors in Carthage. My wife Marilyn is a retired school teacher and we live in the Lock Seven community. We are members and attend Elmwood United Methodist Church, where I am the song leader and teach Sunday School.

If elected as one of your commissioners, I will work to keep Smith County moving forward, working with improving schools, helping to create more good paying jobs in the county, and striving to improve the roads, while trying to keep property taxes down. I will listen to the concerns of all the people. I humbly ask for your vote and support. I encourage each one to get out and vote. Be sure to register if you are not already registered.
