Tyler Mitchell Flanary

Tyler Mitchell Flanary, 18, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 from the results of a kayaking accident.

He was a 2017 graduate of Union High School and was a very loved member of the Reno’s team. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, enjoyed snowboarding and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his parents, Tracey Jordan and husband Wayne of Big Stone Gap, VA and Kevin Flanary and wife April of Cookeville, TN; three brothers, Garrett Thompson and fiancé Savahanna Kern of Norton, VA, Dillon Flanary of Murfreesboro, TN and Gabriel Reed of Johnson City, TN; three sisters, Alexis Jordan of Big Stone Gap, Madison Jordan of Big Stone Gap and McKinley Reed of Johnson City, TN; grandparents, Eddie and Patricia Flanary of North Port, FL, Thomas and Linda Jernigan of Johnson City, TN, Donna Ervin of Big Stone Gap, Richard Ward of Orange Park, FL, Rick Taylor of Norton, VA and Debra Taylor of Wise, VA; special mamaw, Shirley Thompson of Pound, VA; great-grandmother, Doris Ward of Orange Park, FL; two uncles, Jody Flanary and wife Mandy of Kingsport, TN and Tim Ward and wife Tanya of Norton, VA; four aunts, Katie Jenkins and husband Justin of Johnson City, TN, Victoria Mullins and husband Chris of Norton, VA, Rachel Acton and husband Ben of Birmingham, AL and Jessica Johnson and husband Hunter of Nashville, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Tyler Mitchell Flanary will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Zion Family Ministries, 1613 Norton Rd, Wise, VA 24293 with Pastor Wayne Hager and Pastor Jonathan Short officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the church. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 4, 2018 in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, VA. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church to go to the cemetery in procession.
