Woman arrested for possession of stolen property and drugs

(Smith County Insider Press) – On January, 15, 2018, Trooper Tommy Cooper stopped a vehicle for speeding.

According to the police report, the driver of the vehicle, Crystal Jones (39, Watertown), informed Trooper Cooper that she did not have a driver’s license. A check through dispatch revealed that Jones’s license was revoked for failure to pay fines out of Putnam and Jackson Counties in 2014 and 2015.

While Trooper Cooper was speaking to Jones, he smelled an odor of marijuana, according to the police report. When asked about the odor, Jones retrieved a burnt cigarette containing green plant material.

According to the police report, while conducting an inventory of the vehicle Trooper Cooper found a blue plastic bag containing plant material, rolling papers, and a blue plastic straw with a white powdery reside inside.

The vehicle Jones was driving was revealed to have been purchased on December 1, 2017, but the license plate on the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Wilson County on December 2.

Jones is charged with theft of property, possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to use, driving on revoked, simple possession of schedule VI, and use of a stolen license plate.
