(Smith County Insider Press) – On February 17, 2018, Deputy Nathan Williams was sitting in his patrol car on Dixon Springs Highway when he noticed the occupants of a pickup truck were not wearing their seatbelts.

According to the police report, Deputy Williams initiated his emergency equipment to conduct a stop of the vehicle. After catching up to the vehicle, he checked the registration which came back as unconfirmed insurance. Deputy Williams spoke with both occupants of the vehicle and obtained their information. The vehicle information did not include proof of insurance.

The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Melissa Caldwell (35, Lebanon). According to the police report, while searching Caldwell’s purse, Deputy Williams located a metal cigarette case containing a small bag of a crystal substance appearing to be methamphetamine. Inside a wallet in the purse were three hydrocodone pills which Caldwell did not have a prescription for as well as several syringes.
