Two women arrested for drugs following vehicle search at Carthage Walmart

(Smith County Insider Press)—Carrie Lynn Cole (23, Alexandria) and Lisa Faye Gibbs (50, Alexandria) were arrested on July 11, 2018, after drugs were found in their vehicle during a search conducted in the parking lot of Walmart in Carthage, Tennessee.

According to the police report, Sergeant Jarod Smith encountered Cole and Gibbs while conducting an unrelated investigation at Walmart. The women consented to a search of their vehicle.

During the vehicle search, a small amount of marijuana and a glass pipe with residue was discovered in a compartment on the front passenger side. A small amount of methamphetamine and a bag of cut straws with residue were also located inside the vehicle.

Additionally, one-and-a-half tablets of hydrocodone were found in Gibbs’s possession. Gibbs admitted that she had received the tablets from Cole.

Gibbs and Cole were transported to the Smith County Jail for booking.

According to the police report, Cole became noncompliant and aggressive after she arrived at the jail. She allegedly spit at officers as they were attempting to restrain her.

Cole also faces shoplifting charges for placing merchandise which she did not ring up into her bags at one of the self-checkout lines in Walmart. According to the police report, Cole initially left with the stolen items. She then came back into the store to return them and was subsequently apprehended.

Cole is charged with possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of a Schedule VI drug, aggravated assault, and theft of property.

Gibbs is charged with possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of a Schedule VI drug, and simple possession of narcotics.
