(Smith County Insider Press)—On May 2, 2018, Zachary Ryan Basinait (24, Dixon Springs) and Carolynn Ann Acuff (38, Dixon Springs) were arrested when Patrol Officer Jordan Martin pulled them over for speeding and then discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia inside their vehicle.
At the time of the traffic stop, Basinait, the driver, and Acuff, the passenger, gave Martin consent to search the vehicle.
According to the police report, Martin found 1.2 grams of a leafy green substance which Basinait identified as marijuana, as well as one Alprazolam pill and four Acetaminophen-Hydrocodone pills during the search.
A mirror and two metal cylinders with white power residue and a pipe with burnt residue were also found in the vehicle.
Both Basinait and Acuff denied ownership of the pills and drug paraphernalia.
Following the search, both subjects were transported to the Smith County Jail for booking.
Basinait is charged with three counts of possession of controlled substances and one count of felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
Acuff is charged with two counts of possession of controlled substances and one count of felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
