Three people injured after head-on collision on Alexandria Highway

(Smith County Insider Press) New Middleton, Tenn. – On Monday, August 21, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a head-on collision on Alexandria Highway, with one person still trapped inside a vehicle.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found a Chevy Malibu and a Kia SUV in the middle of the roadway. The Chevy Malibu was traveling South on Alexandria Highway when it crossed the centerline and struck the Kia SUV head-on. The driver of the Chevy Malibu had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Smith County Rescue Squad.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu was identified as Amy Sue Barnes.

The driver of the Kia SUV was identified as Royce Prater. The Kia had one passenger in the vehicle identified as Amber Prater.

Amy Sue Barnes and Royce Prater were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by Smith County EMS. Amber Prater was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by Vanderbilt LifeFlight. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Alexandria Highway was shutdown until the wreckage could be removed from the scene.

The investigation and charges are pending as of 8/30/17.

The vehicles were removed from the scene by Dale’s Towing & Recovery and M&W Towing.
