Smith County Students Attend 2018 Career Day

March 14, 2018

On March 13, 2018, Smith County students (grades 7-12) were taken to the Smith County Ag Center to attend a career day. The event was hosted by Director of Schools Barry Smith, Smith County Mayor Michael Nesbitt, and Smith County Chamber of Commerce Director Bill Woodard.

With over 75 booths spread around the Ag Center, about 1400 students were given the opportunity to look at different paths that they might be interested in pursuing. Employers, trade schools and colleges were all in attendance to give students information about their respective industry or school.

Bill Woodard enjoys being a part of giving students the opportunity to meet with employers and college recruiters. “It’s a great example of how working together we can make a difference in our children’s lives and future,” Woodard said.

This is the third year that the career day has taken place, and there was an increase in the number of vendors who attended this year to give opportunities for students of the county. The increase allowed for this year’s career day to be the largest yet, something that Director of Schools Barry Smith is proud about. “The career day continues to evolve with the support and partnerships of many people,” Smith said.” It is a win-win for our children and students of Smith County.”
