Smith County Rescue Squad rescues stranded kayakers on the Caney Fork River

Around 6:00 P.M. on Sunday afternoon, April 29, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a woman yelling for help on the bank of the Caney Fork River near the Smith County Ag Center Boat Ramp and the Crump Paris Park Walking Track.

Reportedly, three women began kayaking on Sunday around 12pm at Happy Hollow Boat Ramp, when one of them overturned near Bonnell Aluminum. One of the other women’s kayaks overturned while she was attempting to help the other overturned kayaker. The third woman continued to the area around Crump Paris Park to seek help.

The Smith County Rescue Squad Water Rescue Team was responded to the call. The rescue squad was able to successfully rescue both of the stranded kayakers.

All three kayakers were reportedly wearing life jackets. No injuries were reported.

The identity of the three individuals was not immediately released.
