The Smith County Public Library will be hosting its sign ups for the Summer Reading Program between May 28th to June 21st. Sign ups will continue through the entire program. To sign up please go to the library and fill out some basic information.
The Summer Reading Program will meet each week from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. at the Ag Center. Food will be provided by the East Tennessee Human Resource Agency and Putnam County Schools. Parents must remain on site with the child while they are participating in the program.
At the sign up children will receive a reading log which if brought back to the program every week will receive a stamp. Children at the end of the program will then be able to bring their stamped logs back into the library and receive a prize.
At the end of the summer there will be a final party that will be at Crump Paris Park, weather permitting. Face painting, a photo booth, and possible music.
The Summer Reading Programs goal is to help bring attention to the local libraries in the community, encourage reading and make it enjoyable for children, bring attention to the Inter Library Loan Program that allows participating libraries to borrow books from each other to then allow a wider variety of selections to their members, and also encourage the use of their TN READS with Override which is an app that can be used to download on your phone from libraries you have a membership card through.
