SCI Spotlight: Smith County 911 Dispatchers

The Smith County Emergency Medical Services & Smith County 911 celebrated Emergency Telecommunicators week by spotlighting the men and women that work behind the scenes as dispatchers in Smith County.

While they’re not the first thought when it comes to emergency services, 911 dispatchers make sure that the different agency’s both get where they need to be going, but also that they have as much information about the situation as possible.

Listed below are the dispatchers and their spotlight:

Stephen Long

Stephen is one of the Day Shift 911 Dispatchers. Stephen has been with Smith County 911 since 2003 and is certified as an Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher.

Donna Hopper

Donna is one of the Day Shift 911 Dispatchers and also helps fill in on other shifts for Sickness or Vacation when other Dispatchers are off. Donna has been with Smith County 911 since 1996 and is certified as an Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher.

Kim Wilmore

Kim is the “Swing Shift” 911 Dispatcher. Kim has been a 911 Dispatcher since 2013 and came to work for Smith County EMS/911 in 2017 from Macon County 911. Kim also helps fill in other shifts for Sickness or Vacation when other Dispatchers are off. Kim is a certified Emergency Medical Dispatcher.

Amelia Shoemake

Amelia is one of the Night Shift Dispatchers. Amelia has been with Smith County 911 since 2015. Amelia is a certified Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher. Amelia is also currently enrolled in EMT School and plans to transfer from 911 to EMS when she completes her training.

Denise Henry

Denise is the longest tenured employee with Smith County EMS/911. Denise has been with Smith County EMS/911 since 1992. Denise is one of the Dayshift 911 Dispatchers. Denise is a certified Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher.

Shannon Minchey

Shannon has been with Smith County 911 since 2005. Shannon is one of the Night Shift 911 Dispatchers. Shannon is a certified Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
