(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. — On Monday night, December 18, the Smith County Board of Education held a work session to discuss potential locations for school facilities in the Gordonsville area.

In the meeting, school board attorneys informed the board members that a member of the community, John Rose, offered to give the Smith County Board of Education 20.86 acres of property for the purpose of building a new school. Rose stated that the only contingency for accepting the property is that it must be used for the construction of a new full campus high school and that plans should start being developed within one year.

The Smith County Board of Education also entered into an option agreement on June 20, 2017 for a 27.81 acre lot on the east end of Gordonsville, known as the Preston property. As of December 20, 2017 the option agreement expired, but the board opted to renew the option for an additional 90 days at their December meeting.

The decision on which property will be used for the construction of a new school in Gordonsville is expected to be made within the next 90 days.
