Man faces criminal impersonation and aggravated burglary charges

On December 5, 2017, Sergeant Jimmy Lankford and Deputy Nathan Williams were dispatched to separate locations relating to the same incident.

According to the police report, Sergeant Lankford was dispatched to Lebanon Hwy following a report of a man walking down the road with a blanket around his torso. Sergeant Lankford asked for the man’s name, which he gave as Bubba Hill.

Dispatch could not find any information on a Bubba Hill.

After a lengthy interview, according to the police report the man revealed that his name was actually Franklin Neal III (34, Smyrna).

Neal was charged with criminal impersonation and transported to the Smith County Jail for processing.

According to the police report, while Sergeant Lankford was interviewing Neal, Deputy Nathan Williams had been dispatched to a residence on Rawls Creek after a potential break in. The homeowner advised that there was a man walking on Lebanon Hwy who could have been the subject who broke into the residence.

Deputy Williams spoke with the homeowner. According to the police report, the homeowner stated that when he arrived home from work, the lights in his house were on and his garage door was partially open. The homeowner then checked around his house and saw that his kitchen window was broken out.

Deputy Williams observed the broken window and collected evidence at the scene.

Based on information obtained and evidence gathered at the scene, Neal was charged by Detective Steve Babcock with aggravated burglary in addition to the criminal impersonation charge.
