On July 16, 2018, Antonio Deshawan McFern (25, Jackson) was arrested following a pursuit by a Tennessee State Trooper while traveling eastbound through Smith County on I-40. McFern now faces multiple charges.

According to the police report, Tennessee State Trooper Adam Cothron attempted to initiate a traffic stop due to McFern following another vehicle too closely. Cothron also observed that the tint on McFern’s windows was in violation of the law.

When McFern noticed the Trooper, he failed to stop and instead began to increase his speed. He passed multiple cars and tractor trailers on the right shoulder of the interstate.

According to the police report, Cothron discontinued pursuit and notified police in Putnam County when he lost sight of McFern.

McFern was apprehended in Putnam County after crashing his vehicle during a secondary pursuit, in which he reached speeds of 110-115 miles per hour. At one point during the pursuit, McFern crossed over the median and into westbound lanes of traffic.

A check of McFern’s license revealed that it had been revoked indefinitely due to accumulation of points. According to the police report, this is McFern’s third offense for driving on a suspended license.

McFern is scheduled to appear in the General Sessions Court of Smith County later this month.

McFern is charged with evading arrest, simple possession of a Schedule VI drug, driving on a suspended license, and reckless endangerment.
