Smith County 4-H, in partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers, hosted its first Wildlife Day Camp on Friday, June 22, 2018.

Seven Smith County 4-H’ers had the opportunity to spend the day in and around Cordell Hull Visitor Center learning about topics like wildlife and fisheries, conservation, and forestry.

The day started with a tree I.D. hike, followed by building bird boxes for Eastern Bluebirds. Campers enjoyed a cookout for lunch, then learned about boating safety by building their own boat out of straws, duct tape and saran wrap. 4-H’ers played wildlife bingo, got to see and feel animal furs, skulls, and tracks, and finished off the day enjoying s’mores.

This educational and fun-filled day was enjoyed by all!

We would like to especially thank Kenny and Gary Claywell and Ashley Webster for their expertise and willingness to help make this camp a success!

For further information relating to any of the many 4-H activities, events and projects, please contact Katie Martin in the Smith County office of the University of Tennessee Extension at 615-735-2900.
