2017 Smith County 4-H Livestock Show

June 20, 2017

Smith County 4-H News by: Katie Clark – Smith County Extension Agent

Around 25 head of goats, sheep and beef heifers and steers shown by 7 different 4-H exhibitors were part of the Smith County 4-H Livestock Show that was held on June 8th. The livestock show was held at the Carson Maxwell Pavilion located at the Smith County Ag. Center.

The official judge, Cynthia Zietz, an experienced judge who recently retired as the Ag Agent and County Director in Jackson County, patiently worked with each 4-H’er as they showed their 4-H livestock project animals. There were even classes available for the peewees (children under 4th grade).

We are extremely proud of these 4-H’ers for the time and commitment that they put into their livestock projects. We are excited to follow their show career this year as they move on to the regional and state level. We wish them all the best of luck and appreciate how well they represent Smith County.

The 4-H’ers would like to thank Smith County Cattlemen’s Association for providing the delicious meal for this event. We also appreciate Smith Farmer’s Co-op and Smith County Tractor Supply, who provided the awards for several classes. The encouragement and assistance from all of these supporters are tremendously appreciated by the 4-H program!

For further information relating to any of the many 4-H activities, events and projects, please contact Katie Clark in the Smith County office of the University of Tennessee Extension at 735-2900.

The 4-H Youth Development Program delivers programs through cooperative efforts of the University of Tennessee, Tennessee State University, and public and private sector volunteers. Educational programs are offered to all youth, grades 4-12, on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
