Woman strikes guardrail, arrested on DUI and drug charges

A Gainesboro woman was arrested on DUI and drug charges after striking a guardrail with her vehicle in Chestnut Mound Wednesday, May 10.

Sgt. Dusty Hailey of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Chestnut Mound area following a report of a vehicle that had struck a guardrail.

Hailey located a green Mitsubishi sitting at the former B&B drive in that matched the description from the report.

Hailey approached and spoke with the driver, identified as Teresa Henry (46, Gainesboro).

According to the arrest warrant, Henry appeared to be intoxicated and had thick, slurred speech, pin point pupils and was trembling.

Hailey asked Henry to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. According to the arrest warrant, Henry stated that she did not take any medications or have any medical problems.

Hailey noticed a pill bottle in Henry’s purse, according to the arrest warrant.

Henry had two prior convictions for DUI and was advised implied consent, according to the arrest warrant.

She was transported to the hospital for a BAC test and then to jail for booking.

During a search of the vehicle prior to being towed, a clear baggie containing 13 Soma pills were located in her purse.

Henry is charged with driving under the influence and possession of controlled substances.
