Welfare Check of Stopped Vehicle Leads to Discovery of Marijuana and Meth

(Smith County Insider Press) – On January 11, 2020, K9 Sergeant Ridge Long encountered a white PT Cruiser sitting in the pull off area by Hiwassee Road and stopped to perform a welfare check.

When speaking with the driver of the vehicle, Rebecca Larue (44, Lebanon), Sergeant Long noticed that she appeared to display an increased level of nervousness. According to the police report, Larue consented to a search of the vehicle which yielded approximately 0.5 grams of methamphetamine along with a silver pipe and a white cut straw contain residue. When being placed under arrest, Larue removed a baggie containing approximately 1.82 grams of marijuana from the crotch area of her pants.

Larue was taken to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking. Larue is charged with two counts of possession of controlled substances and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
