The Smith County Cattlemen’s Association went with a back-to-back format for their Annual Meeting and Open Beef Show this year, hosting the Annual Meeting on Friday night, May 7, and the Open Beef Show the next day.

At the Annual Meeting, over 100 Smith County beef producers enjoyed a meal sponsored by Smith Farmers Co-Op and heard updates from the local and state Cattlemen’s Associations, UT Extension, and NRCS.

One of the highlights of the Annual Meeting each year is the presentation of the Producer of the Year award. This year’s winner was Barry Smith with BHS Angus Farm. Mr. Smith is an Angus seedstock producer and also sells USDA-inspected beef through his retail store.

For the 7th year in a row, a bred heifer was auctioned during the meeting as a fundraiser that will help with the scholarship fund. Scholarship recipients included Adam Kemp, Collette Turner, Kacie Malone, Olivia Phillips, William Massey, Maggie Apple, Campbell Baker, Emily Parker, and McKenzie Mason.

The registered Angus heifer was donated by Phil Massey this year and was purchased by Josh Shoulders.

The following day, the Association held their 7th annual Open Beef Show. With over 40 exhibitors and nearly 100 head of cattle, it was a great show that culminated in Samantha Roberts’ Simmental heifer being selected as the Stanley Dillehay Memorial Supreme Champion heifer.

The Smith County Cattlemen’s Association would like to thank all the members and sponsors for making these events a success!
