The 2019 Smith County Cattlemen’s Association Producer of the Year Phil Massey, along with his family Harold, Ruth, Shelby, Joshua, Tracy, Catherine, Jessica, Christina, and Benjamin.

The 2020 Smith County Cattlemen’s Association annual meeting was held on January 27 at the Smith County Ag Center in Carthage. A crowd of 125 beef producers enjoyed a meal sponsored by Smith Farmers Co-Op, and heard updates from the local and state Cattlemen’s Associations, UT Extension, and NRCS.

One of the highlights of the annual meeting each year is the presentation of the Producer of the Year award. This year’s winner was Phil Massey. Mr. Massey is an Angus seedstock producer and cow/calf operator, who has one of the nicest indoor cattle working facilities in the area.

For the 6th year in a row, a bred heifer was auctioned during the meeting as a fundraiser that will help with the scholarship fund. Scholarship recipients for 2019 were Grace Harville, Kristen Shoulders, Jack Wright, & Ethan Buckler. The registered Angus heifer was donated by James Dillard this year and was purchased by George Clay of Clay Farms.

The Smith County Cattlemen’s Association would like to thank all the members for being a part of our organization and to give a special thanks to those who had a hand in making this year’s annual meeting a success. We’d like to invite everyone to our Open Beef Show on May 2 and encourage you to follow us on Facebook at “Smith County Cattlemen’s Association.”
