Two Arrested With Meth After Buy-Bust Operation

(Smith County Insider Press) – On February 15, 2020, Sergeant Junior Fields and Deputy Nathan Williams conducted a buy-bust operation after receiving information that Timothy Franklin (58, Cookeville) and Michael Sagers (43, Baxter) were distributing large amounts of crystal meth.

According to the police report, contact was made with Franklin, and he was asked if he could get a zip (ounce) of crystal meth. Franklin stated he could, it would be $700, and they would have to come to Putnam County to get it. After speaking further with Franklin, he agreed that he and Sagers could come to the Buffalo Valley Rest Area in Smith County for $750.

According to the police report, Sergeant Fields along with Sergeant Ridge Long and Deputy Nathan Williams went to the area of the Buffalo Valley Rest Area and made contact with Sagers and Franklin. At that time, Sagers stated they could meet at Wendy’s in Gordonsville. After confirming the license plate on the vehicle, Sergeant Fields initiated a traffic stop, and Sagers pulled into the gravel parking lot beside McDonald’s on Gordonsville Highway.

At that time, Sagers and Franklin were taken into custody. While being taken into custody, a glass meth pipe was seen in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Sagers and Franklin were advised why they had been pulled over, and a search of the vehicle revealed approximately one ounce of crystal meth. The vehicle was seized due to being used to transport the drugs, and currency was seized from Sagers.

Sagers and Franklin were transported to the Smith County Jail.

Sagers is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, criminal conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, driving while in possession of methamphetamine, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.

Franklin is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, criminal conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
