(Smith County Insider Press) Defeated, Tenn. – On Wednesday, May 24, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a single vehicle accident with possible injuries on Defeated Creek Highway.
When authorities arrived on scene, they found a 1996 Dodge Dakota in the ditch. The truck was traveling West on Defeated Creek Highway toward Carthage when it crossed the yellow line in front of Defeated Creek Elementary. After crossing the yellow line, the truck exited the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Mark Mofield, 53, of Carthage, TN. Mofield was transported to Vanderbilt University Medial Center by Smith County EMS. As of Tuesday afternoon, May 30, Mofield remains in critical but stable condition.
The crash is still under investigation at this time by Trooper Tommy Cooper of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and citations/charges are pending at this time.
