THP arrests two following a welfare check on I-40

(Smith County Insider Press) On December 6, 2017, Trooper Troy Withers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped to investigate a disabled vehicle stopped in the median on I-40.

According to the police report, when Trooper Withers checked on the vehicle, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Trooper Withers asked the driver, Chad Lee (44, Nashville), if there were drugs in the vehicle. Lee answered that there was not.

A search of the vehicle revealed a blue container with a bag of marijuana inside, as well as several bags of a white powder believed to be methamphetamine.

Lee is charged with simple possession of schedule VI and possession of a controlled substance.

The passenger of the vehicle, Kevin Moore (44, Smyrna) is also charged with simple possession of schedule VI and possession of a controlled substance.

Additionally, Lee was cited for lacking the proper endorsement to operate the commercial vehicle as well as for the expired vehicle registration.
