There is still time to reserve your spot on the Edgar Evins History Hayride on October 12!

September 30, 2019

Everyone on the Edgar Evins History Hayride seems to enjoy the performance of Lori Christensen of Woodbury as the illustrious Elizabeth Dale, daughter of Adam Dale, a first settler in DeKalb County and the founder of the town of Liberty. It seems she is perpetually seeking another husband among the men on the hay wagons. This is one character roles that returns yearly by popular demand.

You still have time to make your reservations for the 14th History Hayride at Edgar Evins State Park on October 12, 2019! Visit www.foeesp.com/history-hayride to reserve your spot.

Frost may not be on the pumpkin by the time of the 14th Annual History Hayride at Edgar Evins State Park on Saturday, October 12, but if it is cool enough, there will be a campfire with complimentary marshmallows to roast and hot beverages at the office. Regardless of the temperature outside there will be homemade cookies and brownies for sale.

Ten wagons will leave at approximately 30 minute intervals from the park office starting with the group reporting at 1:00 p.m. The last group will report at 6:30 p.m. The wagons will make an approximately 2 ½ hour circuit in the park with eleven stops where costumed characters will tell stories of people and events that took place in the park or surrounding area. A narrator will be on each wagon to give additional history between stops.

The cost is $15 per person.

The link to online reservations is on the Friends of Edgar Evins State Park website at http://www.foeesp.com, under the events tab, and also on the Facebook pages for the Friends and the park.

If help is needed, please call the park office at (931) 646-3080 or (800) 250-8619 for contact information for a designated member of the Friends group. Reservations will be for a specific time.

This is a fundraiser by the Friends of Edgar Evins State Park, an all-volunteer group whose sole purpose is to help the park.

The History Hayride is based on actual historical events and persons and is not a Halloween themed event. It is not recommended for young children or anyone unable to sit attentively for about 2 ½ hours on a hay wagon.

Camping and cabins are available at the park for those who wish to make this an overnight or weekend outing. Call the park office for reservations or make them online through the park’s website, https://tnstateparks.com/parks/edgar-evins.

Carl Halfacre of Baxter was the Park Manager at Edgar Evins State Park in 2003 when he proposed a history hayride to the Friends of Edgar Evins State Park as a fundraiser. Since then he has written almost all of the scripts based on his personal knowledge of the park and its history. In addition he has performed several years in various roles. This year he will represent Charles T. Burton who witnessed the last legal hanging in DeKalb County in 1872 of convicted murderer, John Presswood.
