Smith County Weather Report – September 10, 2020

September 10, 2020

We have enjoyed some beautiful weather since the Labor Day weekend but now showers and thunderstorms become likely for this weekend with chances set at 70%. It is going to be very warm and increasingly humid with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s. The days are getting shorter with sunset now at 6:56 p.m. And can you believe the beginning of Autumn is less than two weeks away. Rainfall during the month of August ranged from 5 and 1/2 inches about 3 Miles west of Carthage up to 8 and 1/2 inches in a rain gauge 9 miles Northeast of Carthage.

Did you hear what happened in Denver, Colorado? It was absolutely amazing as they went from a high of 101 degrees on Saturday to the 30s with a winter storm on Tuesday! I just love this stuff and I know you do too if you’re a weather geek like me. For our amateur astronomers out there we will have a new moon on the 17th, that means there will be no moon in the nighttime sky. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters with a telescope because there is no moonlight to interfere.
