Smith County Weather Report – October 1, 2020

October 1, 2020

by Steve Norris, Smith County Insider Weather Correspondent

Smith County will be enjoying a beautiful weather pattern all the way through Saturday with mostly sunny days and highs in the 60s, and the nights will be clear and dipping to near 40 degrees by The Weekend. The next chance of rain looks to be about 30% on Sunday. We expect to get back above 70 degrees from October 7th through the 13th. September will finish with about 3 and 1/2 to 4 and 1/2 inches of rain for the month across Smith County, and October is usually our driest month but can bring a wide range of temperatures. October 2nd, 1986, we hit 89 degrees, but on the flip side, October 3rd, 1974, we saw temperatures dip to 28 degrees. On the 5th in 1995, the remnants of hurricane Opal dropped heavy rain on the area. We have received snowflakes on Halloween several times and as recent as 2014. October is always a wild ride of weather, and you can expect 80 degree days but also Frost and freeze.
