Smith County Weather Report April 15th, 2021

April 15, 2021

by Steve Norris, Smith County Insider Weather Correspondent

Over the next seven days, it is going to be cooler than normal for this time of year in Smith County with high temperatures only in the 60s and dropping into the 40s at night. One positive result from this cool weather is we do not have to worry about severe weather in Middle Tennessee; we don’t expect any thunder anytime soon. A front will pass with some scattered showers Friday night, and then we return to drier weather for much of the weekend and early next week.

Did you know that the National Weather Service can visit your classroom and talk with your students via the Internet? A NWS meteorologist can have a virtual visit with your students in your classroom. Go to this website to sign up and read more information on how this all works https://www.weather.gov/epz/education

There have been 14 tornado touchdowns in Smith County in the last 50 years. Two of these were of EF-3 intensity. The worst of these was the March 3rd 2020 tornado which killed 5 and injured 220 along its path from Davidson into Wilson and then Smith County.  We have been lucky with no other fatalities reported in the last 50 years in Smith County from tornadoes.
