Smith County Schools will be closed March 16-20, 2020, due to COVID-19 concerns

March 14, 2020

Due to the COVID-19 concerns and in the best interest of Smith County students, staff, and their families, Smith County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16, 2020 thru Friday, March 20, 2020.

Spring break will remain the following week as scheduled.

During the next two weeks all facilities will be closed and activities cancelled with the exception of the Smith County School Nutrition Department. SCHS and GES will be open for breakfast and lunch Monday, March 16 thru Friday, March 20, 2020. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Meals will also be transported to Defeated Elementary and Union Heights Elementary during those same feeding times. All meals will be FREE to all children 18 and younger.

Although the Tennessee Department of Education has not reduced the 180 day school calendar requirement at this time, Smith County Schools intend to be proactive instead of reactive for the safety of their students, staff, and their families. Smith County will be in contact with the TDOE in an effort to get these additional days waived and will communicate further plans if days will need to be made up.

Smith County Schools will re-open on Monday, March 30, 2020.
