Smith County Healthcare Hero Heather Lambert, WHNP-BC, FNP-BC

Today’s “Healthcare Hero” is Heather Lambert, WHNP-BC, FNP-BC.

Heather has 26 years of experience in the healthcare field, and she is a Nurse Practitioner at Gordonsville Family Wellness.

We interviewed Heather about her experience working in healthcare, and this is what she had to say.

SCI: When did you realize that you wanted to work in healthcare?

HL: When I was 8 years old my dad was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was given six weeks to live at that time. Ultimately, he went through experimental treatments and was cured, thanks be to God, and is still alive today. During that time I decided I wanted to be a nurse to help people, like they had helped my dad.

SCI: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

HL: The most rewarding part is being able to be a part of something that is bigger than me. Being able to help others with whatever issues they are facing is very rewarding. Whether it is Diabetes, Mental Health, or a minor illness; helping someone become a better version of themselves is wonderful.

SCI: What is the most challenging part of your job?

HL: Insurance, hands down. Many people don’t understand that insurance rules the world, literally. They tell us what we can do, when we can do it, and how to do it. Dealing with the red tape and legalities of insurance is difficult.

SCI: What is something people might not know about what you do or about the healthcare field in general?

HL: The rules and regulations in healthcare are burdensome.

SCI: What do you like to do in your free time?

HL: Reading, Studying the Bible, Travel. I love to travel pretty much anywhere, but my favorite is the Midwest, specifically Colorado.

SCI: Is there anything else you would like to share with the readers of Smith County Insider?

HL: Be present in the moment. Don’t always look to days ahead. Life can change in an instant, so appreciate each moment you have.

Thank you for your service in the healthcare field, Heather!
