The Smith County Drug Prevention Coalition recently presented a recorder to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office to be used in the prevention of undercover alcohol sales to minors.

According to the 2019 Tennessee Student Survey, 18% of Smith County students reported drinking in the past 30 days.

Alcohol remains the most heavily abused substance by youth. Studies show alcohol use can affect adolescents’ brain development causing learning, memory, and emotional issues.

It is imperative that we as a community prevent access to alcohol to help our youth have the best life possible.

The Smith County Drug Prevention Coalition is sincerely thankful for the Smith County Sheriff’s Office in their work in Prevention.

Coalition meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce at noon.
