On Friday, September 11, 2020, Smith County Road Superintendent Steve Coble suffered a fall at his home, causing a severe injury to his neck. Mr. Coble was transported that morning via Life Flight to Vanderbilt University Hospital, where he currently remains hospitalized.
At the Smith County Commission Meeting on September 14, 2020, Mr. Coble’s wife, Vona, gave an update to the commission on his current status. She stated that he sustained injuries to his neck and spine, including spinal cord damage that required surgery. She let the commission know that Mr. Coble has a long road ahead of him, including therapy, and may not regain his full strength but is determined to return to work.
A video of Mr. Coble was shown during the commission meeting. He let the commission know that his employees would continue the work of the department and would be back as soon as possible. He thanked everyone for their support and prayers and asked that everyone continue those.
