Man faces multiple burglary charges, including theft of fire gear

(Smith County Insider Press)—On January 24, 2019, Alfred Donald Colgate (51, Pleasant Shade) was arrested on multiple burglary charges, including theft of fire equipment from a vehicle in Gordonsville.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Department, the Gordonsville Police Department, and the Carthage Police Department have all filed charges against Colgate.

Colgate was apprehended after a reported burglary at a residence on Pleasant Shade Highway on January 22, 2019. During this burglary, Colgate reportedly stole tools, which he later pawned at a pawn shop in Nashville.

According to the police report, Colgate admitted to the theft during an interview with the Smith County Sheriff’s Department on January 24, 2019.

According to another police report filed by Gordonsville Police Department Sergeant Jason Kemp, during the interview, Colgate also admitted to breaking into and stealing fire gear from a vehicle parked at Timberloft in Gordonsville.

South Carthage Fire Chief Ricky Slack initially reported this incident of stolen fire gear on January 12, 2019. According to Slack, the value of the stolen equipment was over $3,000.

Additionally, Colgate is charged with theft of property as a result of taking a Stihl chainsaw from a vehicle in Carthage, according to a police report filed by the Carthage Police Department.

Colgate was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Jail for booking.

Colgate is charged with one count of theft of property greater than $1,000, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of burglary, one count of vandalism, and two counts of theft of property.
