June 7, 2017

A Carthage man was arrested after being caught shoplifting at Walmart Thursday, May 25.

According to the arrest warrant, a Walmart employee observed a man taking shorts off hangers and concealing items under his sweatshirt. Those items included three billfolds, a Mountain Dew, a Red Bull and a satin neck tie — totaling $127.12.

The man passed all points of sale and was approached at the front exit. According to the arrest warrant, he told store employees that they could not touch him and then proceeded to leave.

Assistant Chief Carl Brown of the Carthage Police Department found the man, identified as Christopher Young (41, Carthage), at Sonic and spoke to him about possible shoplifting at Walmart.

Young was identified by a Walmart employee.

During a search of Young, three Alprazolam pills (schedule IV) were located in a billfold inside his hoode that he admitted as being his but did not have on when searched, according to the arrest warrant.

Young did not have a prescription for the medication, according to the arrest warrant.

Young was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.

He is charged with theft of merchandise and possession of schedule IV.
