(Smith County Insider Press) – On May 18, 2019, K9 Sergeant Ridge Long attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle on edge Wood Road after noticing its license plate was improperly displayed. After Sergeant Long initiated his emergency equipment, the vehicle began to accelerate at a high rate of speed.

According to the police report, the vehicle traveled into the grass behind the Alexandria Housing Authority and the driver (Victor Gingerich, 50, Liberty) began to run into a wooded area. Sergeant Long pursued Gingerich, who continued to resist arrest and failed to comply with verbal commands.

After several minutes of grappling on the ground, Gingerich was taken into custody. According to the police report, during a post-arrest pat down of Gingerich, Sergeant Long located approximately four grams of marijuana and an open-blade knife.

During a records check via dispatch, it was discovered that Gingerich’s license was revoked and he had multiple arrest warrants in both Smith and Dekalb Counties. Gingerich was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking.

Gingerich is charged with failure to appear, possession of controlled substances, reckless driving, evading arrest, resisting arrest, criminal impersonation, and two counts of driving on a revoked license.
