Tuesday October 5th Smith County Lady Owls hosted 2A Livingston Academy as the last regular season game. The Varsity played first and it was a battle from the starting whistle, to the last play. Livingston would end up with two scores, one being a penalty kick, while Smith County just could not get the ball in the net. Smith County Senior Goalie, Anna Vining, saw a lot of action, making at least 17 saves in the game. Throughout the season the midfield and back line has been so impenetrable that this game was probably Vining’s toughest of the season. The Varsity Lady Owls finished the regular season sitting at #2 with a overall record of 12-3, first in District with a perfect 6-0.
The JV played after the Varsity game. This was a very hard fought game as well. The JV showed how much they have grown over the season and really put in a great display. Smith County Goalie Eden Daniel faced some tough shots but kept a clean sheet. Even though a number of shots got through, the defense looked much improved. Depth is the lifeblood of a program and we are seeing a very encouraging team emerging for the future. The final for the JV game was a draw of 0-0.
Tuesday October 12th will be the start of the District Tournament. The tournament is being hosted by Jackson County this year. The Semi-Final schedule will be Smith County vs Jackson County at 5pm followed by York vs Watertown at 7pm.
