Each year in the United States Grandparents Day is celebrated the first Sunday after Labor Day. The proclamation was signed August 3, 1978 by President Jimmy Carter.

There are three purposes for National Grandparents Day:

  1. To honor grandparents.
  2. To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children.
  3. To help children become aware of the strength, information, and guidance older people can offer.

Members of the Gordonsville High School FCCLA Chapter celebrated this special day by visiting all the residents at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center. Each person was acknowledged with a homemade card and a blanket, hat, or socks.

We would like to thank the staff and residents for the warm welcome! Pictures of the event can be found on the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Facebook page.
