Drugs Found in Vehicle at the Buffalo Valley Rest Area

January 14, 2022

On 12/25/2021 while patrolling the Buffalo Valley rest area, K9 Sgt Ridge Long observed a black SUV parked at the end of the parking lot by itself. Sgt Long noticed the occupants moving frantically inside the vehicle before exiting and headed towards the restroom. Upon checking the Tennessee tag it was determined that the tag number was not on file.

Sgt Long followed the vehicle back on to I-40 and conducted a traffic stop where he then noticed that the 22 registration sticker appeared to have been tampered with. Upon speaking with the driver, Misty Nabors, and front seat occupant, Michael Keith, the only documentation that could be provided was the title.

The couple stated that they were traveling to Kentucky to visit family, but when asked where their luggage was Mr. Keith began visibly sweating and stammered while trying to answer the question. Both Nabors and Keith agreed to a search of the of vehicle. The K9 was deployed and immediately discovered a bag in the floor board. The bag was found to contain a large amount of US currency.

K9 Sgt Junior Fields was asked to assist and after conducting search found a small amount of methamphetamine, two syringes, a ledges with names and amounts, vacuum sealed bags, and two state notices of property seizure. Nabors and Keith were both advised of their rights, placed under arrest, and taken in to custody.

Both parties are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
