COVID-19 Vaccine Now Available in Smith County to Phases 1a1, 1a2, 1b, and Those Age 75+

You must call the Smith County Health Department to make an appointment to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Please be aware that supply is limited, and you may be placed on a wait list. You may view the most recent county phase status on the Tennessee Department of Health’s website.

The Tennessee Department of Health has announced an updated estimate timeline for COVID-19 vaccination in the state. Wide public availability is expected by Q2/Q3 of 2021; however, the vaccine will be made available sooner to other groups of individuals based upon the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan.

Currently, residents of Smith County falling into Phases 1a1, 1a2, 1b, or those 75 years or older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from the Smith County Health Department. The following individuals fall into each currently eligible phase:

  • Phase 1a1: Frontline Healthcare Workers and Dependent Disabled Adults
    • Hospital/free-standing emergency department staff with direct patient exposure and/or exposure to potentially infectious materials
    • Home health care staff
    • COVID-19 mass testing site staff
    • Student health providers
    • Staff and Residents of LTCF
    • Skilled nursing facilities, assisted living centers, homes for the aged, DIDD residential centers, group homes
    • First responders with direct public exposure
    • Individuals 18 years or older who cannot live independently due to a serious chronic medical condition or intellectual or developmental disability
  • Phase 1a2: Outpatient Healthcare Workers with Direct Patient Exposure
    • Primary care providers and staff
    • Outpatient specialty providers and staff working with acute patients
    • Pharmacists and staff
    • Patient transport
    • Outpatient therapists
    • Urgent visit center providers and staff
    • Environmental services
    • Oral health providers
    • Behavioral health providers
    • Outpatient laboratory staff working with COVID-19 specimens
    • Funeral/mortuary workers with direct decedent contact
  • Phase 1b: K-12, Child Care, and Other First Responders
    • K-12, child care teachers, and staff
    • Other first responders
