County Commissioner David Gross Killed in UTV Accident

On September 30, 2020, Smith County Commissioner David Gross was traveling southbound on Sullivan’s Bend Ln in Elmwood in a Dodge Caravan when the vehicle he was driving left the road and struck a utility pole. After striking the utility pole, a passerby picked up Mr. Gross and transported him to his home on Jonesboro Lane. After arriving home, Mr. Gross got into a side-by-side utility vehicle and proceeded to return to the scene of the vehicle accident. While in route returning to the vehicle accident, Mr. Gross crashed the side-by-side suffering catastrophic injuries. It is believed that Mr. Gross was killed instantly from the impact of the utility vehicle accident.

Mr. Gross was a retired Patrol Sergeant with the Berry Hill Police Department and served as a County Commissioner for District 8 (Chestnut Mound/Elmwood) since 2006.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Gross have not yet been released.
