4th grade Smith County 4-H member Turner Harville

The Central Region Hog Show was held January 6-7, 2020, in Murfreesboro, TN with the State Hog Show following on January 7-9. Smith County 4-H member Turner Harville participated with his two hogs.

Turner exhibited his hogs in their weight classes, showmanship classes, and in a skillathon competition. While showmanship is based on the exhibitor’s ability to handle their hog, skillathons test the 4-Hers in everything from identifying equipment to questions about proper nutrition and reading medication labels.

A Premier Exhibitor Award is given, which is a combination of the exhibitor’s showmanship score, skillathon score and the placing of the market hog or breeding gilt class. At the state show, Turner was 5th place in Skillathon in the explorer division, won his class, and was named Grand Champion for the Berkshire Market Hog.

He concluded the show by being named the Premier Exhibitor in the Breeding Gilt Division for his age group.

We are so proud of Turner’s hard work and dedication!
